Comments: I have what may be an interesting story to tell. I lived in Laguna Hills from 1979 - around 1982 and worked at the AAA on Alicia. After work we used to go for a drink at a restaurant/lounge on the corner of El Toro and Carlota and I think it was called Reubens. I used to bring my co-workers in there to sort of sit in the back and have a chuckle watching (I think) Phil Shane work in the back of the lounge until all hours doing Elvis and Neil Diamond. We usually left around the time when the whole room was singing Sweet Caroline. I was a club singer and player back then also but we did folk rock and covered a lot of the stuff that was "current" at the time. So going to see Phil was somewhat of a guilty pleasure because we thought he was very corny. We were also going to see guys like Justin Case down in Dana Point Harbor and Denny Pezzin at all the hotels. Our band was called Haven (later Vocalworks) and we played at the Wind & Sea in DP Harbor and the old Warehouse restaurant and the Ancient Mariner and the Rusty Pelican on the Lido on Balboa peninsula and some of the other Far West restaurants. And later on at the Queen Mary and Disneyland. We went out to see Phil because we thought he was funny. I am fast approaching 50 and my music career is different now. I have children and all that. I was driving one of them to VBS the other day in Santa Ana and lo and behold, there was a car in front of me with a Phillenium plate frame and we pulled up alongside. I hadn't thought of Phil Shane in over 25 years and had, in fact forgotten his name. So I want to tell you that I admire his perseverance over all these years and wish him the best. He shows exactly what I tell my new young colleagues trying to get started out here: a word we used to use in the mid-west, stick-to-it-iveness. I am absolutely blown away to see that Phil is still at it after all these years.

My buddies Mike,and Ryan and I stopped in to grab a few beers at Houdini's in the Monte Carlo Casino last week, and I didn't get up until Phil sat down. My first impression was "how did they get Prince to sing 'kiss' at a lounge", but lo and behold it was the Shaner. Then he nailed some Diamond, Sinatra, and country hits. This guy has better range than Derek Jeter. I can't wait until the next time he is in Vega$, I am scheduling my trip around it. So i heard from her that you were gonna be down here from vegas i found out from a lady friend at the embassey suites in santa ana that you were down here in april and performing at the Tustin Brewering Co , i figured it was closer to me than going to see denny at the hotel,i was warned to go early cause you pack them in early,so i got there semi early and it was already packed but it was really worth it, i never had so much fun in my life,and i over heard debbie and karen in the bathroom there,that they never saw me like that before and that i woke up, and than they kept asking me if i liked you, i responded with a great big grin saying hell yeah,i love this guy he's so much fun!
and full of energy,i would see him as much as i can when he comes down here to sing for us. Plus i love neil diamond,it made me feel like i was at one of neil diamonds concerts. My wife and I along with two other couples traveled to Vegas last week and stayed at the Tropicana. After a long flight and first day we found ourselves in the lounge where you were playing. Although my wife is partial to Snoop Doggy Dogg, the rest of us were yelling for "Sweet Caroline." I really wish that Sweet Caroline was on your CD. The only dissapointment of the night was that you didn't change into your pink chiffon outfit. My wife was really waiting for that! However, later that night, in our room, I couldn't help but think her mind was elsewhere! I think that you "inspired" her. I'm just glad I was the beneficiary of her imagination. We saw parts of your show all three nights that we were in the Trop. We really regret not having a picture of you with all of our group. Hopefully next time! Thanks for mak! ing our trip memorable.
